Robert De Niro and Tiffany Chen reportedly welcomed a baby girl named Gia Virginia in April

SAINT PAUL DE VENCE, FRANCE: Robert De Niro and Tiffany Chen became targets for trolls after they were spotted going out for lunch in Saint-Paul-de-Vence. As per reports, the pair went on a double date with Sting and his wife Trudie Styler on May 23.

However, their outing received backlash for leaving their child at home. The couple welcomed a baby girl named Gia Virginia in April. A user commented on Facebook, “Already abandoning the baby with a nanny! Such great parents.” Another wrote, “Poor baby being dumped with a nanny already.”

‘Why is she not home?’

A third user shared, “Only issue I'd have is why is she not home spending those very important days/weeks with her newborn.. and him too! Regardless of age etc! Just because they've money and probably nannys etc. I feel for the baby in that respect.” “He's rich. He's paying the nanny to raise his responsibility. Kid might grow up fatherless and screwed up. But at least it will be wealthy,” another comment read.

Besides, De Niro is also receiving brickbats for having a child in old age. “Baby is beautiful...but I find it entirely selfish! She'll go through most of her life without bn able to build memories with her father. A mother would never want this for her child. It appears they considered themselves and not her,” a person said on Facebook.

Another commented, “He is older than a boomer😏. I heard this was planned. Makes no sense. Most likely her father will need elderly care in her formative years. Selfish.” “Ridicules for him to have a small child now, who will be raised fatherless. We have enough fatherless children in our country who do not have a role model!” a third added.

‘You always want to do the right thing by the children’

‘The Intern’ star has already had six children from other women over the years. He became a father for the first time after tying the knot with his first wife Diahnne Abbott. Abbott has a daughter named Drena from her previous relationship but De Niro adopted her. The former couple had a son named Raphael De Niro in 1976.

‘The Irishman’ actor had twins Julian and Aaron, 27, with his ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, in 1995. De Niro married for the second time in 1997 with actress Grace Hightower and had two children – Elliot, 24, and daughter Helen Grace, 11.

Earlier this month, De Niro gave an interview to ET Canada, where he shared about his love language and made claims about “being loving with [his] kids.” He also added he was occasionally "stern about stuff." The Academy Award-winning actor said, “I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice. And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”

Besides, De Niro asserted that he’s not a "cool" father. He added, “I’m okay. You know, my kids disagree with me at times, and they’re respectful. My daughter, she’s 11, she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her. I adore her, but, you know. And my youngest now, that’ll be more to come. But, that’s what it is.”
