Toronto FC's Sean Johnson is sidelined with a hand fracture.

Toronto FC starting goalkeeper Sean Johnson will be out of action for up to six weeks after suffering a hand fracture in team training.

TFC just can't have nice things in 2023. The Canadian side currently sit in 14th place in the Eastern Conference table with just 19 points from 24 games played, winning just three league games so far.

To make matters worse, their experience Italian duo of Federico Bernardeschi and Lorenzo Insigne haven't exactly met expectations since signing for TFC last summer, and to top it all off, their defense that has conceded 33 goals this campaign will now be without the 34-year-old veteran Johnson.

"Toronto FC goalkeeper Sean Johnson suffered a hand fracture yesterday during training," a team statement read. "The player will be assessed this week by a hand specialist to determine if surgery is necessary. He is expected to miss approximately four to six weeks."

In the meantime, Toronto will look to lean on Tomas Romero in between the sticks as Greg Ranjitsingh is still recovering from an abdominal injury.

The Reds were dumped out of the 2023 Leagues Cup at the group stage, and will be back in action in MLS on August 20 when they host fellow Canadian outfit CF Montreal.
