An investigation is underway after Sergio Ramos' home was burgled while he was playing for Sevilla against Lens in the Champions League on September 20. The veteran defender returned to the club this summer 18 years after leaving to join Real Madrid.

Spain's Civil Guard is investigating a burglary at the home of former Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos.

The 37-year-old was playing in Sevilla's opening Champions League group stage fixture against Lens, on September 20, when the robbery took place at his home in Bollullos de la Mitacion.

The incident, first reported by Spanish newspaper ABC, is believed to have taken place with Ramos' four children in the house, who were being looked after by childminders with his wife also away. Nobody was hurt in the incident.

Burglaries at the homes of high-profile footballers have become commonplace in recent years, with a number of Premier League, La Liga and Ligue 1 stars falling victim. The home of Real Madrid's Lucas Vazquez was targeted by thieves in June, with former manager Zinedine Zidane and Alvaro Morata among 15 others to have their houses raided this year.

There has also been a spate of Manchester United players targeted in recent years - a break-in at the home of Victor Lindelof in 2022 perhaps the most high-profile recent example.

In terms of Ramos himself, his return to Seville after 18 years away follows a hugely successful career at Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Also Spain's most capped international men's footballer, he lifted the Champions League on four occasions during his time in Madrid - including three seasons in a row - and won La Liga five times ahead of fierce rivals Barcelona.

Real Madrid see off Las Palmas with comfortable home win

Real Madrid cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win over Las Palmas in La Liga on Wednesday night, hardly needing to get out of second gear at the Bernabeu.

Brahim Diaz broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time after an opening 45 minutes in which the hosts had been creative but were repeatedly frustrated by Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles. Joselu doubled the advantage soon after half-time.

The game saw Vinicius Junior return to action for Real Madrid in a huge boost for Carlo Ancelotti, while Jude Bellingham was afforded a rest from the starting lineup after a scintillating start to his career in Spain.
