LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Producer Amy Pascal appeared at the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ and confirmed that a fourth ‘Spider-Man’ film with Tom Holland and Zendaya is still “in the works” although the WGA writers' strike has paused the development of the movie. The update comes ahead of the release of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ on June 2.
“Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” Pascal told Variety. “We’re in the process, but the writers strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started,” she added. Sony chairperson Tom Rothman was much secretive about the future and said, “If I told you, I’d have to kill you,” with a laugh.
‘We Won’
Fans were left highly excited after the update about Holland and Zendaya’s upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ film. “WE CHEERED,” one wrote. “WE WON,” added another. “motherdaya we love and miss u,” one said. “HE’S COMING BACK TO US,” a fourth tweeted. One said, “great I’m still crying from the third,” while another added, “Still haven’t recovered from the last one.”
Another mentioned, “The third movie was literally the best in the MCU I hope they keep it up.” One fan gushed, “WE ARE SEATED,” while another shared a Holland and Zendaya fancam with a caption that read, “WE WILL BE WATCHING.”
‘They should leave Zendaya out’
While majority of the fans were left thrilled with the latest announcement, many also believed that Zendaya’s inclusion in the film as MJ would ruin the essence of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which ended with Peter Parker/Spider-Man asking Doctor Strange to erase him from everyone’s memories in order to protect the multiverse. “I love Zendaya but bringing her back would destroy Peter's development in the last movie. The whole point of the last movie was to give Peter a fresh start. He should instead meet Gwen Stacy or Black Cat,” one fan wrote.
“Bringing back Zendaya makes No Way Home pointless. Meaning there will be no reason to watch it. And I’ve never not seen a Spider-Man film. Sucks but that’s just the MCU doing MCU things,” another added. “No need for MJ to be in it tbh. Defeats what happened in no way home. Unless she’s only briefly involved,” a third commented.
One said, “I would prefer if they didn't include MJ for part 4, but as long as we get another good Spidey movie, I'm in” but another argued, “No hate the crew or cast but you can only tell one story so many times before it gets boring. They’ll drag this on like the fast and furious movies, it’ll never end.”
One explained, “I would really only want MJ to appear in either (or maybe both) a scene where Spider-man is checking in on her from afar OR peter randomly bumps into her in the street and it’s a bit of a shell shock moment for him We’ve got a lot of potential here but going backwards isn’t good” while another added, “They should leave Zendaya out for the 4th movie and bring her back for either the 5th or 6th instead. Let no way home breathe and give the ramifications time to actually sink in.”
In addition to the fourth ‘Spider-Man’ installment, producer Pascal also hinted towards a Spider-Woman and live-action Miles Morales movie. “You’ll see all of it. It’s all happening,” she said. As ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ hits theaters this weekend, producers are already keen on working at the third installment, ‘Beyond the Spider-Verse,’ for next year.
