'Everyone he works with thinks Gaetz is a sleaze,' Stephen Colbert stated, 'including Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Stephen Colbert, the host of 'The Late Show', has slammed Rep Matt Gaetz, a Republican from Florida and a staunch supporter of ex-President Donald J Trump.

In one of his recent segments, Colbert labeled Gaetz as "sleazy" and condemned him for purportedly displaying explicit videos on the House floor.

A deep dive into Matt Gaetz’s gossip

Senator Markwayne Mullin has recently been strongly criticizing his colleague, Congressman Matt Gaetz.

He notably stated in a CNN interview on Thursday that the allegations of Gaetz being involved with underage girls seemed "reasonable" given his past conduct on the House floor.

Mullin told CNN, "There’s a reason why no one in the conference defended him. Because we had all seen the videos that he was showing on the House floor, all of us had walked away, of the girls that he had slept with."

Mullin further stated, "He bragged about how he would crush ED medicine and chase it with an energy drink so he could go all night. This is obviously before he got married."

Colbert uttered "Oh" as the camera returned to him. "That makes it better, then."

Gaetz declared in March 2021 that he was under investigation by the Department of Justice for potential sexual misconduct.

This declaration followed closely after The New York Times reported that the DOJ had initiated an inquiry into claims that Gaetz, who was 38 at the time, had groomed and engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

Additionally, Gaetz was allegedly accused of taking the girl across state lines, which would have been against federal sex trafficking rules.

The congressman reportedly said at the time that he and his family had truly fallen victim to a $25 million "organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official."

The DOJ declared in February 2023 that there wasn't enough evidence to bring charges against Gaetz.

In response, Stephen Colbert said to his audience on Thursday night: "The guy everybody finds particularly punchable is Florida Congressman and man who spotted you from across the Build-A-Bear workshop, Matt Gaetz."

Colbert continued his monologue, "Everyone he works with thinks Gaetz is a sleaze," he said, "Including Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin."

The host then demonstrated his argument using a clip from a Newsmax interview.

In the video, Mullin tells the news organization that Gaetz once said to him about Kristi Noem, a former congresswoman who is now the governor of South Dakota, "Man, she's a fine [silently bobs head] and you can put the 'b word' in place there."

"Brebresentative of Bouth Bakota?" Colbert proposed.
