Cher performed her a rendition of her new single 'DJ Play A Christmas Song' at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: 'Goddess of Pop' Cher was recently accused of lip-syncing during her performance at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in Manhattan, New York.

The 77-year-old took the stage at the end of the historic traditional event and delivered a rendition of her new single 'DJ Play A Christmas Song' from her first-ever holiday album, 'Christmas.'

However, some viewers took to social media to claim that Cher was only mouthing the words during her performance instead of belting out the track.

A few eagle-eyed internet users also pointed out that at one point the singer's voice remained unaffected even after she moved the microphone away from her face.

Following the criticism, fans of the Grammy Award winner rushed to her defense and said many artists allegedly lip-sync while performing at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Viewers accuse Cher of lip-syncing at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

In the wake of Cher's performance at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, some viewers accused the singer of lip-syncing during the show.

"Why is cher lip syncing her performance? #MacysParade," one asked. "The biggest lip syncing since Milli Vanilli," one commented.

"Cher seriously girl? So much damn autotune. We’re not supposed to know ya lip syncing #MacysThanksgivingDayParade," another wrote.

"Cher looks great but she's lip syncing, and it's AWFUL LOL," a fourth user remarked.

One said, "Cher lip syncing to bad autotune on #MacysParade . How many crutches does an entertainer need?"

While another added, "I love Cher, think she's great, funny, can put on a show. But for the love of God stop putting people on Television if they're not going to actually sing AND can't make the lip syncing believable. Still mad about Tate McRae on SNL last week too lol."

Fans defend Cher against lip-syncing accusations

As Cher's lip-syncing accusations made the rounds online following her performance at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, several fans rushed to her defense.

"I DONT WANT TO HEAR ONE WORD ABOUT CHER LIP SYNCING BECAUSE EVERY PERFORMANCE ON THE PARADE IS LIP SYNCING," one wrote.

"Macy’s parade makes all singers lip sync, it is one of their requirements!" alleged another.

"Every single performer has been lip syncing for years. I dont enjoy it but i get it for the sake of the parade Cher, at her age, still performing is still awesome," one said.

One fan stated, "Every one of them lip-syncs for the parade. Cher’s outfit and overall Cher-ness outshines the lip-syncing."

While another added, "Cher is Cher, she can do whatever Cher wants to do."

Cher said she never liked her voice 'that much'

During a recent interview with Paper magazine to promote her Christmas album, Cher revealed, "I just never liked my voice that much. If I had my choice, I probably would have another one, but I didn't get my choice. I got my mother's voice."

"It doesn't sound like a man, it doesn't sound like a woman. I'm somewhere more in-between," she explained.

"I have this strange style. I do what you do when you can't hold a note: I don't pronounce my Rs. I guess some consonants are hard to sing, so I just gotta leave them open," Cher continued.

The music legend further noted that "people seem to like" her voice and said that it makes her "happy as a clam" although she herself "wouldn't have picked it."

"I liked it on my mother and it's definitely my mom's voice," Cher noted, adding, "My mom's is softer, mine is edgier - different, but the same, but I don't think I would have picked it."
