Warning: Spoilers for 'Ted Lasso' series finale

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 finale has just dropped and we can't help grabbing some tissues as Ted returns to Kansas after bidding goodbye. His trip back home was filled with an emotional tribute by Trent, Rebecca, Nate and the team of AFC Richmond. The 75-minute long episode, ‘So Long, Farewell’, revealed why Ted decided to quit and return home.

The penultimate episode in the series addressed Ted’s ordeal, “Should I stay or should I go?” Although Ted knew what he had to do, the others were not ready to let go of him. Buoyed by an outstanding cast and unforgettable performances, Apple TV+ said goodbye to its favorite character, Ted. However, speaking about the other characters, Season 3 hasn’t been coherent when it comes to their stories.

AFC Richmond’s sweet goodbye to Ted Lasso

Ted was AFC Richmond’s backbone. Without him, the players would have been long gone by now. His genuine care, unique coaching style and optimism gradually fostered a strong sense of unity and unwavering belief in the team’s potential. The bond between Ted and the players was a source of strength, and as he left them, it was a hard pill to swallow. To make his last day at the club memorable, the players have him and Coach Beard a surprising yet emotional farewell by singing ‘So Long, Farewell’.

‘The Lasso Way’

After Ted revealed that he was leaving England, Trent revealed what he had been up to since Season 1. He wrote an entire book named ‘The Lasso Way’, which tells the story of the Ted's entire journey with Richmond and how his determination and love for the players led to their ultimate victory. Trent gave copies of the book to Ted and Coach Beard to take a look at.

‘If you go, I go’

The series finale opens with Ted at Rebecca’s home. Ted, Coach Beard, Jane and Rebecca had a get together because of a gas leak in Ted’s building. After Ted revealed he was returning home, Rebecca felt sentimental. She tried to avoid talking about Ted leaving, but eventually had a deep conversation with him.

Rebecca tries to convince Ted to stay, emphasizing how it could benefit his son and ex-wife too. She revealed that she was planning on selling 49% of the club, which would make him the highest-paid coach in the league. However, Ted was firm with his decision and stays silent. Rebecca understand and accepts his decision, and the reveals that she plans to sell the club for $2B. For Rebecca, the club and Richmond were incomplete without Ted. She said, “If you go, I go," and told Ted goodbye tearfully at the airport.

Nate realized his mistake of leaving Richmond in Season 2, despite Ted’s efforts and strong belief in him. He apologized to him tearfully and hugged him. They both look at the ‘BELIEVE’ sign that used to hang at the door, and Nate said that he sees it there.

While the last episode of 'Ted Lasso' was exceptionally moving, it is evidently clear that he is not coming back.

'Ted Lasso' Season 3 is streaming on Apple TV+.
