Netflix released a trailer for "Squid Game: The Challenge" on Monday, giving the first full look at the hotly-anticipated reality competition show based on the streamer's 2021 South Korean hit series "Squid Game."
While "The Challenge" is not a matter of life or death, as is graphically depicted in the namesake series, the reality show's preview showcased sets and games nearly identical to those seen in "Squid Game."
Young-hee, the iconic animatronic doll from "Squid Game," makes an appearance as contestants test their luck in a game of "Red Light, Green Light," where they're marked with what appears to be a black liquid.
The trailer also features a look at the terrifying glass bridge, honeycomb and marble games, as well as appearances by the Pink Soldiers who run the games.
"This is a savage game," one unidentified contestant says in the trailer, as clips of players fighting over food or looking up at the giant sphere filled with the robust cash prize are shown.
According to an official synopsis, the series follows 456 contestants who "enter the competition show in pursuit of a life-changing reward of USD $4.56 million."
"As they compete through a series of games inspired by the original show - plus surprising new additions - their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them," it read.
The 2021 series "Squid Game" follows a group of cash-strapped contestants who compete in a series of deadly childhood games for a massive cash prize. The award winning series became Netflix's biggest ever series launch. It also got picked up for a second season, although the premiere date has yet to be announced.
"Squid Game: The Challenge" will stream on Netflix on Nov. 22, with new episodes debuting weekly.
