ZURICH, SWITZERLAND: The queen of Rock 'n' Roll died without meeting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tina Turner died at the age of 83 and received beautiful tributes from people around the world, including Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, and King Charles.
The 'Best Singer' tragically suffered till her last breath as she continued to mourn the losses of her sons Craig Turner whom she had with Raymond Hill and Ronnie Turner from Ike Turner. However, her two adoptive sons Ike Turner Jr and Micheal Turner kept a glimmer of hope as she battled a parallel war of a series of illnesses and was seriously ill when she died, leaving the family in shock.
"No one had heard from Tina in a while'
The singer of 'Proud Mary' also left behind her five great-grandchildren and three grandchildren whom she never got to meet before she died. The matriarch's long-term illness, which ultimately led to her death, seems to have been kept a secret from the Turner family over the years since everyone was astonished to hear of it.
Twanna Turner, Ike Turner's daughter from school friend Pat Richard, told Page Six, "No one had heard from Tina in a while, it happened so suddenly," she explained. "It’s time to heal … the family really wants and needs to heal, they have gone through so much, and they continue to go through so much." She continued, “These two powerhouses were such an entity — there will never be another Ike and Tina.”
The Grammy winner reportedly had little contact with Raquel and Randy, the children of her son Ronnie, and she had never met Tyson and Tyrese, Raquel's sons. Michael also has two boys, Amari and Gianni, as well as Tiffany Turner-Dukes, who is the mother of Marli. Never encountering their illustrious great-grandmother are Marli, Amari, and Gianni.
'You don't want to stay with him'
Ike and Tina had an abusive marriage which led her to attempt to kill herself before their divorce in 1978. The events disturbed Tina to the extent that she feared her son Ronnie would turn out like his father. As her daughter-in-law Afida said in a recent interview, "Sometimes [Tina] she told me, 'You don't want to stay with him. He is going to be like his father.'" "At first, he was kind of like his father, but after that, he was going very well," Aflida told of Ronnie. "He made a very big effort to keep me," she noted. "In the beginning, it was very hard because I was not willing to stay with him."
They never met their rock star great-grandmother
Michael has a daughter named Tiffany Turner-Dukes, although Craig and Ike Jr never had children. Turner-Dukes and her spouse have three children together: a daughter named Marli and two sons named Amari and Gianni. The report says all three of Tina's great-grandchildren through Michael are musicians like their famous relatives, although they never met their rock star great-grandmother.
Tina was heartbroken by the passing of Craig, her oldest son, who committed suicide on July 3, 2018, at the age of 59. He had previously struggled with drug addiction. Ronnie passed away from colon cancer on December 8, 2022, at the age of 62, leaving behind his children and his distraught wife Afida Turner.
