'The truth could not be buried by mudslinging politicians or their powerful benefactors,' Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton said

AUSTIN, TEXAS: Supporters are congratulating Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton after the state senate acquitted him of all 16 corruption charges during a historic impeachment trial on Saturday, September 16.

He was acquitted on all 16 counts by all but two of the 18 Republicans in the chamber. Paxton released a statement soon after, stating that truth had prevailed.

How did Ken Paxton react to the acquittal?

“Today, the truth prevailed,” Paxton wrote in a lengthy statement which he also shared on X, formerly called Twitter.

He added, “The truth could not be buried by mudslinging politicians or their powerful benefactors. I’ve said many times: Seek the truth! And that is what was accomplished.”

The vote disagreed strongly with the Texas state Assembly which was mostly GOP and had voted to impeach Paxton in May, the New York Post noted.

The GOP Republican Andrew Murr, who was a prosecutor against Paxton, spoke on the floor Senate floor.

In his closing arguments, he said, “We discovered unprecedented abuse in the Texas Attorney General’s by Mr Paxton."

Did Ken Paxton's wife Angela Paxton vote in the Senate to acquit her husband?

Senator Angela Paxton was ordered to be in the court for the trial, however, she was not allowed to vote.

Paxton has been married to his college sweetheart, state Senator Angela since 1986.

Paxton was accused by his own staff of breaking the law to help Nate Paul, a real estate developer who donated a lot of money to his political campaign.

Paul also reportedly helped Paxton hide his affair by hiring his mistress.

“We all have sinned and fallen short,” Paxton lawyer Tony Buzbee said of his client.

“If this impeachment is based on martial impropriety, then line up, line up; we’re going to be doing a lot of impeachment in this city,” Buzbee added.

How did people react to Ken Paxton's acquittal?

"So thrilled that justice prevailed today!!," commented a user on his statement which was shared on X. The congratulatory message also kept coming.

Sarah Fields wrote, "Ladies and gentlemen, the vote is in. Ken Paxton is STILL your Texas Attorney General.

"He has been acquitted. They’re not going to stop going after him, or anyone else who is still fighting for you," Fields added.

"We have angered the giant. So we will keep fighting. We will never stop fighting for our Constitutional Republic. Today is a good day," Fields concluded.

One user said, "Thank God! God Bless the 16 Republicans consistently voting Nay Definitely a GOOD DAY!!!!."

Another commented, "It's time for AG Ken Paxton to fight back!"

"The best attorney general in the country is BACK!," stated a user.
