Tottenham and Newcastle are among several sides who are weighing up a move for Ben Godfrey, who is likely to be allowed to leave Everton in the January window.

Everton defender Ben Godfrey is emerging as a transfer target for several Premier League sides, including Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Godfrey has dropped down the pecking order at Goodison Park this season, with Sean Dyche preferring the likes of James Tarkowski, Michael Keane and Jarrad Branthwaite at centre-back. He has played just one minute of Premier League football this season, coming off the bench late on in the Toffees' 2-2 draw at Sheffield United.

As such, the 25-year-old has fallen completely out of England contention having earned two caps at senior level and featured in their provisional squad for the European Championships in 2021. Godfrey is keen to reignite his flailing top-flight career and Everton are now willing to listen to offers for him.

90min understands that Tottenham and Newcastle - who are both looking to bring in defensive reinforcements, not least due to injury concerns - have been checking in on Godfrey and are long-term admirers of his.

Earlier this month, 90min reported that Spurs will prioritise signing a centre-back in the January window, with Lloyd Kelly, Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah among their other targets. They also watched over Strahinja Pavlovic during a recent scouting trip to Red Bull Salzburg.

Godfrey is also wanted by Bournemouth, Burnley and Crystal Palace, while Scottish side Rangers are interested as well.

Everton signed Godfrey from Norwich City for an initial £20m fee at the end of the summer 2020 window and he quickly became a key player under the management of Carlo Ancelotti. He won the club's Young Player of the Season award at the end of his first campaign on Merseyside, but the amount of games he's played has dropped year-on-year since.
