Camela Leierth-Segura's last text message was sent on June 29 to a friend in Sweden, but it was a 'bland text'

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Camela Leierth-Segura, a 48-year-old musician who co-wrote Katy Perry’s hit song 'Walking on Air' in 2013, has been missing since June 29, 2023.

Notably, her car, a silver 2010 Ford Fusion, and her 19-year-old black cat, Morris, are missing.

Was the missing report for Camela Leierth-Segura filed late?

The California Department of Justice has listed her as a missing person, but the investigation by the Beverly Hills Police Department (BHPD) did not start until August 8, 2023, more than a month after her disappearance.

According to Fox News, the BHPD said that they learned about the case from a Detective Bureau supervisor and that it is an ongoing missing persons investigation.

"After speaking with a Detective Bureau supervisor, I learned the (missing person) report was taken on 8/8/23, and this is an ongoing Missing Persons investigation," Beverly Hills police told the outlet.

They stated that they will conduct “a thorough, comprehensive and untainted investigation” and that they cannot confirm or deny any of the statements made by other media outlets.

Why is timing crucial for police?

The police said, "The timing is especially crucial considering, the date she is stated to have gone missing compared to when it was reported to the police."

Leierth-Segura’s friends and family are worried about her safety and well-being.

They said that she was evicted from her apartment around the same time she went missing and that she had been struggling to pay rent.

They also said that her phone does not ring and that they get a message saying “This phone isn’t accepting calls at this time” when they try to call her.

Who filed the missing person report?

Liz Montgomery, one of Leierth-Segura’s close friends who filed the missing person report, told the station that she fears someone could have taken advantage of Leierth-Segura’s “vulnerable state”.

Montgomery received texts and messages from the family of Leierth-Segura, who lives in Sweden, asking if she had seen her.

She contacted all the friends and acquaintances they had in common. They all gave the same answer, so she reported her as missing.

She said that Leierth-Segura’s last text message was sent on June 29 to a friend in Sweden, but it was a “bland text” that did not reveal anything important.

How family and friends are putting in efforts to find Camela?

Montgomery and other friends have created an email address, findcamela@gmail.com, to receive tips about Leierth-Segura’s potential whereabouts.

They have also posted on social media and set up a GoFundMe page to raise awareness and funds for the search.

Annelie Sernevall, another friend of Leierth-Segura, wrote on Facebook, “Please, please come back safe.

"We are extremely worried about her safety, and despite our best efforts, the local authorities have not been able to locate her … She means the world to us, and time is of the essence.”

Leierth-Segura a native of Sweden and an accomplished singer-songwriter has worked with artists such as Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Lopez.

She is best known for co-writing Katy Perry’s 'Walking on Air', which was released in 2013 as part of Perry’s album Prism.
