West Ham opted to retain David Moyes as manager despite holding talks with former Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier.

West Ham United decided to stick with David Moyes as manager despite holding talks with former Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier, sources have confirmed to 90min.

Moyes lifted the first major trophy of his managerial career last Wednesday after guiding West Ham to a tense and nervy 2-1 win over Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final. The victory ended West Ham's 43-year wait for a trophy, last delivered when they beat Arsenal 1-0 in the 1980 FA Cup final despite being a second division side.

West Ham have enjoyed incredible success over the past three seasons under Moyes, finishing 6th and 7th in the Premier League in consecutive seasons in addition to reaching the semi-finals of the 2021/22 Europa League, but last season was more challenging for West Ham despite significant investment being made in the playing squad.

West Ham finished in 14th place after losing 20 of their 38 Premier League games and Moyes' tactical decisions were heavily scrutinised as the team struggled to score goals. It led to heightened speculation over his future at the club, with 90min revealing in March that the club had planned to move on from the Scot this summer.

Talks were held with the representatives of Marco Silva and Paulo Fonseca over succeeding Moyes at London Stadium, while sources have confirmed to 90min that West Ham also met with Galtier, who was recently sacked by Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG for failing to deliver progress in the Champions League.

90min understands that Galtier was willing to make the move to England but West Ham ultimately decided to give Moyes another year after witnessing the club lift a major European honour to secure a route back into next season's Europa League.

Napoli are now understood to be the frontrunners to appoint Galtier following the departure of Luciano Spalletti after their Serie A title success, but he also has options in Saudi Arabia.

With Moyes' position as West Ham manager secure for now, attention has turned towards strengthening the squad for next season. The Hammers are looking to strengthen their options in central midfield in particular, knowing they will be likely be losing Declan Rice this summer after six glorious seasons in claret and blue.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are all vying to sign Rice, though the former's first official bid has been turned down by West Ham as it falls well short of their £100m valuation.
