'They (police) didn’t do much, and it’s not OK, and I lost my daughter because of that,' said Alma Lopez referring to her daughter Lily Silva-Lopez

GREELEY, COLORADO: Grieving parents of a Colorado girl who was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend claimed the police did not protect their daughter after she filed a domestic violence complaint six days before her death. Lily Silva-Lopez accused her 16-year-old girlfriend accused Jovanni Sirio-Cardona of punching her in the face.

The 15-year-old girl also told cops that her 16-year-old ex stuck a gun in her mouth and threatened to shoot her family members when she tried to end their relationship of six months. The incident took place just two weeks before she died, according to NBC.

What happened to Lily Silva-Lopez?

According to the district attorney's office, on June 16, Cardona fatally shot her multiple times after he allegedly forced himself into Lopez's home in Greeley. However, it remains unclear if police contacted the alleged murderer or any of his family members following the domestic violence complaint.

Alma Lopez and Hector Silva, parents of the victim claimed if the police took immediate action their teen daughter would still be alive. "They didn’t do much, and it’s not OK, and I lost my daughter because of that," said Lopez, and Silva added saying, "They should’ve kept an eye on him or let him know the consequences."

The 16-year-old girl just finished her sophomore year at Greeley's Northridge High School. Lopez's obituary stated that she "enjoyed shopping, clothes, makeup and dancing," and added that she "was a loving and caring friend with lots of spice." She met Cardona at school and problems escalated between the duo from the beginning of June until she was fatally shot

Lopez's mother claimed police did not believe the assault against their daughter

According to Cardona's arrest affidavit copy reviewed by NBC, cops responded to the June 10 complaint of him punching the girl and alleged threats on June 2 after he allegedly stuck a gun in her mouth. However, the report does not mention when exactly Lopez told the police.

Following the complaint, a Greeley police officer responded and took pictures. The officer then took the victim's statement and asked her about the incident. Lopez's mother said the officer asked his daughter if she could prove that she had been attacked as there were no witnesses. "My daughter has a bruise on her face and the ones on her arms. How much more do you need?", the girl's mother said. "I honestly think he didn’t believe that all this happened," she added. According to the district attorney, Cardona who is a minor has been charged with first and second-degree murder as an adult.
