'GMA' Michael Strahan's new producing gig 'BS High' on HBO follows a man who coaches high school football for a school that doesn't exist

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Good Morning America’ star Michael Strahan has announced a new gig away from his duty as the co-host of the morning show. The 51-year-old recently revealed that he’s taken a big stride in the world of entertainment and has produced a documentary via his company SMAC Entertainment.

The former NFL star took some time out on the live broadcast of the morning show to share the news with the viewers. He spoke about the project and stated that ‘BS High’, the documentary that he has produced will air on HBO on August 23, 2023. This news comes after Michael’s string of absences from ‘GMA’ which led many fans to speculate that Michael is leaving the morning show.

What is ‘BS High’ about?

‘BS High’ is a documentary that chronicles the Bishop Sycamore football team, which advertised itself as an Ohio State high school football powerhouse with multiple high-level college prospects. However, there was no school, and a coach named Roy Johnson was later busted for defrauding the nation by coaching a team that never existed. The documentary is directed by Travon Free and Desmond Roe, who directed ‘Two Distant Strangers,' which won the ‘Best Live Action Short Film Award’ at the 93rd Academy Awards.

The documentary is executive produced by Adam McKay, who produced the acclaimed HBO show ‘Succession,’ among many other film and TV shows. The film is also produced by Michael Strahan’s ‘SMAC Entertainment’, a company that the ex-NFL star co-founded just to further his purpose and establish his production venture in the entertainment industry. The documentary includes interviews with Bishop Sycamore head coach Roy Johnson and athletic director Andre Peterson, along with former players and their families.

‘BS High’ becomes Michael Strahan’s another adventure away from ‘GMA’

Michael Strahan may have returned to ‘GMA’ this week but his long hiatus from the show for nearly two weeks did bother many fans. During this time, the fans saw Michael posting about his wellness brand, his hosting gig of ‘The $100,000 Pyramid’, and now only recently Michael expressed his desire to become a professional F1 driver after attending the Hungarian Grand Prix. The 51-year-old has been eyeing many ventures altogether which had left fans concerned and now another major announcement as a producer of a documentary may only cement their fears that Michael has found a way out of the ‘GMA’ studio.

Michael recently shared the first look of ‘BS High’ on 'GMA' and is believed to have lent his expertise to the film. The official Good Morning America Instagram account captioned the clip: "GMA FIRST LOOK: @michaelstrahan and @smacentertainment introduce #BSHigh — a documentary about the lucrative world of high school sports and a man who exploited his popularity by coaching a team for a school that didn’t exist. The documentary debuts August 23rd on HBO and streaming on Max!” Michael said on the show, "My company, SMAC Entertainment, is one of the producers of BS High," before confirming the documentary's release date in the clip's caption.
