LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ is one of the most anticipated movies of 2023 from the Marvel franchise. Fans have been waiting desperately for this movie for multiple reasons, as there’s a lot to look forward to in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, the second installment of the animated Spider-Man movies. From the stellar celebrities voicing different characters to the newest supervillain, The Spot, and of course, the variants.
Different variants of Spider-Man were a crucial part of the 2018 film ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ but ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ is going to take it up a notch. In this movie, there will be over 250 Spider-People, who encompass the Spider Society, and not all of them are as nice as the usual Peter Parker and Miles Morales that the fans are used to.
What is Spider Society?
Miles Morales, along with Gwen Stacy, is going to venture into the multiverse that is protected by the Spider-People, aka the variants who form the Spider Society. This Spider Society is led by none other than Miguel O’Hara, the 2099 Spider-Man, who was introduced in the end credit scene of ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ Director of the upcoming movie, Kemp Powers, said, “He’s (Miles) so different from the other Spider-People because he’s not so alone. He’s close to his friends and family and never hides anything from them,” to Den of Geek in an exclusive interview.
These Spider-People are very different from Morales. While Morales has friends, family, and loved ones, these variants in the Spider Society rely on teams. Think of an interesting mix between the Avengers and the 'lost boys' from ‘Peter Pan’. It doesn’t take Morales long to understand how different he is from them, and the result of it all isn’t as wholesome as one would imagine. It's akin to Tony Stark and Captain America going against each other.
Who is the true villain?
The Spot has been announced as the main supervillain of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ but he might not be the only one. Morales is going to face newer and greater challenges in this film, including different versions of himself. The trailer of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ has made it abundantly clear that not every variant is going to be kind. The creators have confirmed, “There’s an antagonistic relationship between Miles and the Spider Society.” It will be interesting to see just how villainous some members of the Spider Society can be.
You can watch ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ from June 2, in theaters near you.
