Carson Daly is still missing from 'Today', while co-hosts Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, and Sheinelle Jones have returned

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: NBC ‘Today’ host Carson Daly is reportedly still missing from the morning show following the Fourth of July holidays. While other co-hosts, namely Al Roker, Hoda Kotb, and others have returned from their break, Daly was absent from a recent ‘Today’ episode. Apparently, his PopStart segment was filled in by co-host Sheinelle Jones.

Last week, ‘Today’ host Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb were absent from their respective seats. Although the morning show fans were told beforehand about the host's absence for a week, however, they are wondering how long Carson would remain absent from his post. During Savannah and Hoda’s absence, Craig Melvin and Kristen Welker took over their duties while Dylan Dreyer filled in for Al Roker, who was also on a break. Dylan also covered for Carson’s PopStart segment and it seems ‘Today’s’ familiar faces will be away for some time more.

Where is ‘Today’ Carson Daly?

While the rest of the 'Today' show hosts returned to the broadcast, Carson Daly remained unexpectedly absent on Monday, July 10. Sheinelle Jones stepped in for him during his PopStart segment. During the segment, Sheinelle, along with other hosts, Craig Melvin, discussed various topics such as concert-goers throwing objects at performers, a Jamie Foxx sighting, and the upcoming Barbie movie. Last week, alongside other hosts, Sheinelle herself was also absent from her desk. However, both Al and Sheinelle appeared in a pre-taped segment for the ‘Today Third Hour’. Also, there’s no information yet on when Carson is expected to return.

Carson Daly’s mental health journey

The 50-year-old American journalist recently opened up about his life, career, and mental health struggles following his 50th birthday. In an interview with ‘Today’, Carson revealed that he feels better today than he did in his 20s, largely due to improvement in his mental health. He admitted to having struggled with undiagnosed generalized anxiety disorder at 23 when he began his broadcasting career. Carson said, “I suffered for so long without knowing what it was, I was scared a lot. I always felt panicky. You know that feeling of losing your phone or your wallet? That's how I felt all the time”. He continued, “I couldn't relax, I couldn’t enjoy life”. The ‘Today’ host revealed that following his diagnosis, he found effective stress management through cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Carson concluded adding, “I now have the tools to work through my anxiety, I’ve never felt this strong mentally, and that’s one of the reasons I feel so good about going into my 50s.”
