GAINESVILLE, GEORGIA: A babysitter from Gainesville, 23-year-old Abby Elizabeth Chosewood, has been arrested following allegations that she strangled and "nearly killed" a one-year-old child. She is facing charges of felony aggravated assault and felony cruelty to children for her alleged actions against the child.

According to the Gainesville Police Department's Facebook post in February read, "In February 2023, Chosewood allegedly suffocated and/or strangled a one-year-old child causing bodily harm." Specific details about the incident were not disclosed by the police.

‘It is unthinkable’

The authorities faced challenges in gathering evidence against Chosewood due to the lack of nanny cameras to record the incident. This resulted in several months passing before they were able to build a case against her. Not much is known about the accused’s life and whereabouts.

Lt Kevin Holbrook told WSB-TV, "It is unthinkable and there is nothing for us to go on exactly why this did happen. This is something that we may never know — as when the child obviously is too young to tell us the truth. But obviously, Chosewood knows exactly what happened and hopefully it’ll come out in court."

Following the investigation into the incident, Chosewood was booked into the Hall County Jail. However, she was released on a bond on July 31, as reported by WSB-TV.

Information on the incident is limited to protect privacy

Chosewood reportedly was arrested earlier as well. In 2021, she pleaded guilty to three charges, including identity and financial transaction fraud. As a result, she received a sentence of two years probation for those crimes.

The Gainesville Police Department is diligently working on the case and actively investigating the incident. At this point, no further details about the ongoing investigation have been disclosed to the public.

Due to the sensitivity and seriousness of the matter, updates may be limited to protect the integrity of the investigation and to respect the privacy of those involved. Further information will likely be provided by law enforcement as the case progresses and more details come to light.
