GREEN BAY, WISCONSIN: Despite a plea for leniency by the victim's father, Wisconsin woman Taylor Schabusiness was sentenced on Tuesday, September 26, to life in prison without parole for killing and decapitating her lover, Shad Thyrion, 24, in a meth-fueled encounter in 2022.
However, the victim's father, Michael Thyrion, expressed forgiveness and the wish that Schabusiness would "see the streets again sometime" in the future.
During a rare appearance in Brown County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Michael remarked to Schabusiness, "I believe everybody makes bad choices -- maybe not to this scale -- but I think there's a lot of hope for you, I think you can make use of your time and be a better person and do great things."
"It does no good for me to hate you. I know you got a heart, I know you got a mind and I wish you no harm and I hope things go well for you," he said as per The Daily Beast.
Schabusiness will be incarcerated for the rest of her life. She was convicted of killing Shad and dismembering him and received a life sentence without a chance of parole or extended supervision for first-degree deliberate homicide.
She was handed additional time to serve consecutively as a penalty for the third-degree sexual assault charge and the charge of mutilating a corpse.
The court gave her the sentence after acknowledging that her life had been filled with "tragedy," but the judge also noted, "You are responsible for the choices you make about where you're going."
The judge continued, "This crime offends human decency, it offends human dignity and it offends the human community, it really does. The public needs protection."
Michael Thyrion once faced six years in prison
Reportedly, Michael was accused of engaging in drunk driving for a fifth time and might have spent six years in jail.
He was also accused of obstructing an officer and driving while suspended for the fourth time, each of which carried a 21-month prison sentence. According to a criminal complaint, a cab driver contacted 911 and pursued Michael after observing him speeding and almost running off the road in 2015, as per the Green Bay Gazette.
When the police came, they discovered Michael outside his car, stumbling across the parking lot to enter a bar on the West Side.
Shad’s parents are no longer together. His mother Tara was with her boyfriend Steve Hendricks when Shad died.
Shad Thyrion's uncle gave impact statement for the prosecution
Taylor's father, who was recently released from jail, her grandmother, cousin, and Schabusiness' attorney Christopher Froelich were all asked to testify on Taylor's behalf at the hearing before the court handed down the sentence.
Although Schabusiness herself opted not to speak during the hearing, her counsel stated the murder was a "meth-fueled incident."
Shad's family, including his uncle, also provided impact statements for the prosecution. "I basically wanted to say there's no excuse for what she's done, I don't care if it's drugs or upbringing, we all go through hard times growing up," Shad's uncle seethed.
"You have the opportunity to change that ... to see you have a problem ... basically, to me, you took the easy way out. You did the most cowardly, weakest thing that you could do possible."
Shad's uncle continued, "All over the place there's help and it doesn't cost a dime."
"To take the cowardly path you did and to make other people suffer because you were suffering, is pretty s--tty. The name Taylor S--t-business, fits you well," he added.
He continued by saying, "I will pray that you meet the same fate as your [idol] Jeffrey Dahmer, so have a good life S--tbusiness," to applause from the audience.
