DENVER, COLORADO: The bodycam video of a Westminster officer shooting a woman during a traffic stop on July 25 was released on Friday, August 18.

According to police, Alysha Duran was in her SUV when the officer opened fire and killed her. A bullet also wound up getting lodged in the windshield of a nearby car.

According to reports, officer N Adams investigated an SUV that had stopped on the wrong side of the road on July 25. As a result of the incident, one person died.

Adams came to a stop to inspect a silver SUV that was in the 88th Avenue eastbound turn lane and was facing west. He approached the car and saw Duran, the 46-year-old driver, sitting motionless. She didn't answer when he asked her whether she was alright, as reported by Denver Gazette.

She remained silent as the officer continued to question her. According to the video, he remarked that she didn't appear to be under the influence of alcohol and inquired as to whether she required an ambulance.

Adams allegedly saw Duran pull out a handgun, the police department said in a statement. The policeman asked Duran what she had as he attempted to grab her arm. He then took a step back, raised his gun, and shot her four times.

The shooting also involved a second car but its driver was unharmed.

Adams said, "I'm so sorry", while speaking to the nearby vehicle, sounding as if on the verge of tears. "She reached into the center console and I saw this gun. She pointed it right at me. I was so worried I was going to shoot downrange to you," he said.

According to the release, the officer was placed on compensated leave for the investigation. Currently, the 17th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team is conducting an investigation.

Before the results of the investigation are submitted to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for review, the investigation is anticipated to take several months to complete.
