Who was Claudia Voight?

Heidi Voight's mother Claudia M Voight's death is now being investigated as a homicide, according to Vermont police. The department confirmed Monday, July 31, that the secrecy of the investigation was necessary to ensure the case's integrity.

On February 20, Claudia's body was first discovered in her home in Windham, Vermont. Initially, investigators considered that she died of natural causes. However, an autopsy report later revealed Claudia was murdered by compressions to her neck, leading the death probe to be treated as a homicide.

According to police, they believed the woman was "targeted" by the murderer and stated that there was no immediate threat to the public. However, police refrained from disclosing whether any suspects in connection to Claudia's murder had been identified, according to New York Post.

Heidi says her mother was 'stolen from the world'

In the heartbreaking message posted on Instagram, Heidi expressed her gratitude to her news viewers for their support and shared that she had taken time off work to cope with the ongoing investigation and its emotional toll.

"Claudia Voight was stolen from this world. She was stolen from her family, from her children, and from my precious daughters who now ask me almost every day, ‘Why did grandma go to heaven?' " Claudia wrote.

"For the last 161 days, the world around us has moved on. But my family and I have been living on February 21st on repeat. There is an emotional purgatory that comes when you must silence what you want to scream from the rooftops," the former Miss America contestant and award-winning journalist said in her Facebook post on Monday. "As we often say in the news, there will be more details to unfold. But for now, I just wanted you to know why you haven’t seen me. And I wanted the world to know: She should still be here," Heidi added.
