Heather Glenn was trying to detain 34-year-old Sean Hubert at Perry County Memorial Hospital when she was fatally shot

TELL CITY, INDIANA: A veteran police officer was killed in an altercation involving a domestic violence accused. Heather Glenn was gunned down on Monday, July 3, during a “brief struggle” with Sean Hubert. At the time, she was trying to detain the 34-year-old man at Perry County Memorial Hospital as she probed a domestic issue between him and a woman.

A press release issued by Indiana State Police said, “Sergeant Glenn made contact and attempted to arrest Hubert. Hubert refused to comply with Sergeant Glenn. Sergeant Glenn attempted to deploy an electronic-controlled weapon but it was ineffective. During a brief struggle, Hubert produced a firearm and Sergeant Glenn was shot.”

In the fatal commotion, Hubert also lost his life after cops with the Tell City Police Department and Cannelton Police Department struck him with bullets, the release added.

Who was Heather Glenn?

Indiana State Police’s statement noted that Glenn had been with the Perry County Sheriff's Office and Tell City Police Department for around two decades. It added, “Sergeant Glenn was a well-respected officer and pillar in her community. Tell City Police Chief Derrick Lawalin advised Sergeant Glenn was a good friend to everyone and will be sadly missed, but not forgotten.”

Perry County Sheriff's Office also released a statement, saying, “Our thoughts, prayers, and hearts are with our brothers and sisters at the Tell City Police Department. May her friends, family, and community find peace and strength through the memories and legacy Officer Glenn left them.”

‘She touched so many lives’

The tragedy elicited numerous tributes as a person wrote on Facebook, “I didn't know her personally. And I know it was her job, but she helped me twice in my life. She made a huge impact on mine and I'm sure many, many others lives as well. My condolences to her family and friends 💜.”

Louisville Metro Police Department wrote, “On behalf of the men and women of LMPD, we stop to mourn the loss of your sister and ask for blessing and peace over her family. Keeping your department in our prayers during this difficult time. Rest easy sister. We have the watch. #LMPD.”

“My deepest condolences. May God comfort all your hearts & give you peace that passes all understanding. May your memories of Heather bring smiles to your face. She touched so many lives,” a user commented. Another added, “You are in our thoughts and prayers and on our hearts tonight. Sending our love to her family, both blood and blue. #thinblueline #wearefamily.”
