Donald Trump made the remark while discussing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' request for an endorsement in the state's election

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Former President Donald Trump recently made a bizarre statement about Las Vegas potentially having an ocean in the future. The crowd was seen responding with cheers to this comment made during a campaign stop on Saturday, July 8.

Trump made this remark while discussing Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' request for an endorsement in the state's election. After expressing his admiration for the Sunshine State, he went to draw a comparison of it with the city of Las Vegas.

'Maybe someday you'll have the ocean'

"And remember, Florida's easier than other places, you have the ocean and you have the sun. There's something about that that works. But – you have the sun, too, but you don't have the ocean, I can tell. You definitely don't have the ocean. Maybe someday you'll have the ocean, you never know," Trump is heard saying in a clip, leading to the crowd cheering and applauding him. Trump continued, saying, "Someday. Hopefully, it's a long time away, right? Hopefully."

'Does this mean he believes in climate change?'

Twitter users reacted to Trump's comment about the possibility of Las Vegas having an ocean, giving rise to a lot of speculations about him accepting the climate change theory. One user questioned, "Did he just confirm that he does believe in, and pretty much expects, dramatic sea level rise?" Another wrote, "Does this count as talking about climate change?" "So have they actually accepted climate change then?" stated one asking about his current stance on the theory, with a user adding, "Is he acknowledging that the ice is melting?" "So he admits global warming is real? Yay. But he clearly doesn't realize there's an entire mountain range between California and Nevada. Makes it a wee bit harder for the ocean to get to Nevada," expressed a user who seems to be quite passionate about climate change. On the other hand, a person theorized, "At first I thought he was acknowledging sea level rise; no, he's probably talking about the Big One (earthquake) when California will supposedly break off and sink into the Pacific," while another inquired, "Does this mean he believes in climate change and Nevada being a coastal state at some point?" "Was the crowd cheering for rising ocean levels? Were they cheering for climate change? I'm so confused," wrote a perplexed user who couldn't understand what was the reason behind the crowd cheering to Trump's peculiar comment.

'This was exactly the evil scheme of supervillain Lex Luthor'

As expected, some took the opportunity to make fun of the situation, with one comparing Trump to the supervillain, Lex Luthor, writing, "This was exactly the evil scheme of supervillain Lex Luthor, as played by Gene Hackman, in the 1978 movie version of 'Superman'," while another asked, "Is he planning on pulling Lex Luthor's plan from Superman there?" "He's Lex Luthor!" wrote one attaching a GIF of the character.
