Al Roker was also missing from 'Today 3rd Hour' but the segment did not have anyone filling in for him

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: ‘Today’ meteorologist Al Roker recently went missing from his usual weather segment and fan favorite Dylan Dreyer filled in for him.

On Friday, the 69-year-old skipped reporting on the weather, and Dreyer was spotted in his place. Besides Roker’s weather report segment, he didn’t appear in his usual post on ‘Today 3rd Hour’ either.

Although Melvin updated the viewers about Roker’s absence during weather reporting, he didn’t reveal the real reason behind it.

In recent weeks, Roker has been observed taking several days off from the NBC show. Last month, he went on to celebrate his birthday and drop off his son, Nick, to college.

Al Roker’s abrupt absence from ‘Today’

On Friday, 69-year-old Al Roker suddenly went missing from ‘Today’ and didn’t appear for his usual weather reporting and ‘Today 3rd Hour’ segment.

Meanwhile, his co-host Craig Melvin continued with the segment and revealed, “Dylan is in for Al this morning,” updating the viewers on Roker’s absence.

Today's viewers once again observed Roker’s absence from his regular role on the show's ‘3rd Hour’.

Notably, on this occasion, there was no replacement to fill his place. Melvin, Dylan Dreyer, and Sheinelle Jones worked together to anchor the segment, conducting an interview with their Citi Concert Series performer, Darius Rucker, right outside the plaza.

What is Al Roker’s new gig?

Just the day before, ‘Today’ Al Roker had shared a surprising revelation with his co-hosts about a secret project he had been quietly working on apart from his morning show duties.

During the ‘3rd Hour’, he disclosed that he had a guest appearance lined up in the upcoming episode of the popular drama ‘Billions’.

In this particular episode titled 'Hurricane Rosie', Roker portrayed himself, taking on the role of an expert explaining hurricane ratings to David Costabile's character, Mike Wagner.

His co-hosts were genuinely impressed by his acting skills. However, they couldn't help but question why he had kept this exciting project hidden for so long.

Roker candidly admitted that he chose not to boast about the opportunity because it didn't feel right to him. He opted to keep the project private until the right moment.
