‘Our strong little girl’: Kate Ferdinand gives birth to second child with husband Rio Ferdinand and reveals sweet name
Kate and Rio Ferdinand have welcomed their second child, a baby girl. The couple celebrated their daughter’s arrival on social media, writing on Instagram: “Shae Ferdinand. 10.7.23 Our strong little girl,” with a white heart emoji. They also shared a photo of the baby’s hands, with the hands of Shae’s siblings resting on top. The former England football player, 44 and The Only Way is Essex star, 32, have been married since 2019. They already share a two-year-old named Cree, born December 2020, and Kate is stepmother to three children from Rio’s last marriage. Rio is father to Lorenz, 16, Tate, 14, and Tia, 11, through his marriage to his late wife Rebecca Ellison, who died in 2015 after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Announcing Kate’s pregnancy back in January, the pair shared a video on Instagram, in which Kate unbuttons her coat to reveal her baby bump underneath her dress. A smiling Kate cradles her hand over her belly, with Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You” playing in the background of the clip. “We’ve been praying for you,” she captioned the post. Friends of the couple have been sharing their best wishes for the new arrival to the family and complimented the choice of Shae’s name. The Only Way Is Essex star Fearne McCcan, who recently welcomed a newborn daughter named Finty, wrote: “Congratulations, I love her name.” Another TOWIE star Billie Shepherd wrote: “Congratulations to you all.” The official Manchester United Instagram account wrote “Congratulations” and posted a red heart emoji. The couple previously lost a baby last year. In July 2022, Kate revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage, after finding out the baby “had no heartbeat” at her 12-week scan. “So much to say, but somehow I can’t find the words. Absolutely devastated & heartbroken,” Kate said at the time. “But couldn’t be more grateful for the hugs I got from my big(er) babies coming through the door when we arrived home.” Kate has been vocal about being a mother to stepchildren, and her journey in parenting in a “fully blended family”. In January, Kate launched her modern parenting handbook How To Build A Family. On Instagram, the author wrote that she wished she had been given a handbook when she became a stepmother. Lindsay Lohan gives birth to her and husband Bader Shammas’ first child, a son
Lindsay Lohan has given birth to her first child, a son named Luai, according to reports. On Monday 17 July, Page Six reported that a representative for Lohan, 37, had confirmed the Freaky Friday star and her husband Bader Shammas had welcomed their first child together. “The family is over the moon in love,” her representative said in a statement to the outlet. According to Page Six, Lohan and Shammas’ son was born in Dubai, where the couple lives. The exact date of the baby’s birth is unknown. As for the name the couple chose for their son, the baby’s name, which is a popular Arabic name for boys, means strong and steady, or shield or protector. The Independent has contacted a representative for Lohan for comment. The baby news comes after Lohan celebrated her son’s impending arrival with a recent look at the infant’s beach-themed nursery. In photos shared this week, the actress showed off the nursery, which included a wall painted with a beach mural and a nautical-themed crib. Lohan first announced that she was expecting her first child in March, when she shared a photo of a “coming soon” onesie. “We are blessed and excited,” she wrote in the caption. In April, Lohan shared photos from her baby shower, which was attended by friends and family. “Good times. So grateful for all of the wonderful people in my life,” she captioned the photos. Lohan opened up about becoming a mother during an interview with Allure in June, where she revealed that she couldn’t wait to become a parent. “I can’t wait to see what the feeling is and what it’s like to just be a mom,” Lohan said. “Happy tears. That’s just who I am. Though now, it’s probably baby emotion. It’s overwhelming in a good way.” Lohan announced her engagement to financier Shammas in November 2021. In June 2022, Lohan revealed that she and Shammas had exchanged vows when she referred to her partner as her “husband” on Instagram. Kim Kardashian left stunned after woman claims Skims bodysuit ‘saved’ her life after she was shot four times
A woman has credited Kim Kardashian’s shapewear line Skims for saving her life during a shooting. The 42-year-old Skims founder took to her Instagram Story on Friday 14 July to share a TikTok from Angelina Wiley, a 22-year-old Kansas City resident who survived a mass shooting in Kansas City, Missouri, earlier this year. The TikTok, which was posted on 18 May, went viral this week with more than 1.4m views as fellow TikTokers tagged Kardashian in the hopes that she would see the video. “Kim Kardashian saved my life,” Wiley began the clip. She explained that she was shot “four times” during an incident that occurred on New Year’s Day, according to CBS affiliate KCTV5. “The night that I got shot, under my dress I was wearing a Skims shaping bodysuit,” she said. “It was so tight on me that it literally kept me from bleeding out.” “I recommend it,” Wiley jokingly added. “I’m definitely going to buy some more, I mean I should wear it everyday. It’s like body armour for women.” As she threw her hand up in the air, she said: “Call it fate, or Jesus, but I’mma call it Kim.” In the comments, many people applauded Wiley for telling her story and praised Kardashian’s shapewear line for allegedly saving her life. “If this doesn’t land you a @Skims sponsorship I don’t know what will,” one user wrote. “Now THIS is good advertising,” another said. “Now I’m gonna go buy some Skims.” @honeygxd no but fr, thanks kim 😭😭🫶🏼 #fyp #foryou #gunviolence #kimkardashian #kim #skims #skimsbodysuit #gunviolenceawareness ♬ dream - 💗 In her Instagram Story, the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star wrote underneath the re-posted video: “Wowwww” Wiley revealed in a follow-up video that she was wearing the Skims Sculpt Thong Bodysuit ($68) when she was shot four times. In addition to the gunshot wounds, the incident also left her with a ruptured bladder, a cracked pelvis, and a bullet still lodged in her abdomen. The 22-year-old revealed in a series of videos posted last March that she was waiting for a Lyft around 1.30am when she decided to grab a bite from a nearby food truck. As she crossed the street with her friend, Wiley heard “people fighting” before a man “in a ski mask” began shooting. She has since started a GoFundMe page to raise money towards her medical bills. In an update shared on 8 July, after her video went viral, Wiley said she is in physical therapy but she continues to struggle with her hip and “severe PTSD” ever since the shooting. The Independent has contacted Angelina Wiley for comment. Kim Kardashian founded the shapewear brand Skims in September 2019. Since then, it has become one of the fastest-growing companies and launched Kardashian into billionaire status. This month, Skims was reportedly valued at close to $4bn, according to Women’s Wear Daily. New technique represents major breakthrough in search for aliens, scientists say
New technique represents major breakthrough in search for aliens, scientists say
A new technique is a dramatic breakthrough in the search for alien life, astronomers say. Researchers at the Breakthrough Listen project based at the University of California, Berkeley say they have developed a new way to be sure that any potential signal is really coming from space – and not from something more boring. Astronomers spend vast amounts of time looking for radio signals that might have come from alien civilisations as part of work on the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, or SETI. But they have in the past been fooled by very human technology, such as cellphones, microwaves and car engines, that can produce a blast of radio signals that look as if they have come from distant worlds. One way to check whether signals are really alien is to point the telescope elsewhere and then repeatedly return to the same spot, with the hope of seeing the signal again and ensuring that it is not a false alarm. But that is not foolproof – and only works if the signal sticks around. Some of the most promising radio signals might only be detectable once. The so-called “Wow!” signal, for instance – a radio signal detected in 1977 that was so shocking the astronomer who found it wrote the exclamation on a printout – has not been detected since, and astronomers still do not know whether it was an alien message or just a mistake. Now scientists have devised a new test that can be used to see whether a signal has really passed through interstellar space, which should help show that it is not from elsewhere on Earth. It works by looking for “scintillation” – the changes in amplitude of a signal as it is affected by the cold plasma of space. “The first ET detection may very well be a one-off, where we only see one signal. And if a signal doesn’t repeat, there’s not a lot that we can say about that. And obviously, the most likely explanation for it is radio frequency interference, as is the most likely explanation for the Wow! signal,” said Andrew Siemion, principal investigator for Breakthrough Listen and director of the Berkeley SETI Research Center, which operates the world’s longest running SETI program. “Having this new technique and the instrumentation capable of recording data at sufficient fidelity such that you could see the effect of the interstellar medium, or ISM, is incredibly powerful.” Dr Siemion called the breakthrough “one of the biggest advances in radio SETI in a long time” and said that it would be the first time researchers would be able to differentiate a real signal from a false alarm, even if it was only detected once. The technique can only be used for signals that have travelled 10,000 light years or more to Earth, researchers note. If it was closer to us, the scintillation effect cannot be seen because they are not travelling through enough of the interstellar medium, or ISM. The research is described in a new paper, ‘On Detecting Interstellar Scintillation in Narrowband Radio SETI’, published in The Astrophysical Journal.
