The birth of a rare rhino calf at Chester Zoo was caught on camera. A zookeeper captured rhino Zuri giving birth to an eastern black rhino on Sunday, 12 November. “So far, the pair have been inseparable and the little one is feeding regularly and already gaining in size and weight,” says Rhino team manager Emma Evison. The birth will help in preserving an endangered species. Fewer than 600 of the species are left across the African wild and are listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN). A prankster wearing a transparent bin bag and shower cap made his way down the catwalk at New York Fashion Week before being bundled away by security. The man can be seen checking over his shoulder before strutting his stuff in front of the audience - who appeared not to notice he was an intruder. YouTuber Fred Beyer uploaded footage of the incident - which happened earlier this month - to his channel on 13 September. Greenpeace activists in France dumped nearly a ton of green algae outside the Finistere administrative headquarters in Quimper, Brittany on Monday, in protest over the amount of green algae off the coast caused by industrial and factory farming. Calling for an end to the construction of industrial cattle farms in the region, members of the environmental group unfurled banners reading “Green algae: asphyxiated Brittany” and “Brittany polluted: the state is guilty”. The activists released green and black smoke during the protest, and some were moved away from the algae by police as authorities moved in to clear the streets. Half of France’s over 3,000 factory farms are situated in Brittany.

US vice president Kamala Harris has condemned states that have implemented full abortion bans, one year since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V Wade. Roe V Wade was a historic ruling for abortion rights in America, but the law was reversed in 2022, allowing individual states to write their own legislation on abortion. Harris recalled a conversation she had with her husband, prompting her to ask, ‘How dare they?’ of US states that have written full abortion bans into law.

Roe V Wade became a landmark decision for abortion rights in America, enshrining a layer of legal protection for women.
