Amouranth discussed with Dr K, a psychiatrist, how her personal life and mental health were progressively deteriorating

HOUSTON, TEXAS: Doing full-time streaming as a job comes with its own share of stress and anxiety, which can take a significant toll on even those who boast the strongest mental fortitude. This is why it wasn't a surprise when Kaitlyn 'Amouranth' Siragusa, a renowned Twitch streamer, revealed that she suffered from anxiety in her personal life as a result of her streaming employment. She once cried during an emotional conversation with psychiatrist Dr Alok Kanojia, better known as Dr K, on a stream.

Dr K is a Harvard-trained psychiatrist who is well-known among gamers for giving therapy to broadcasters and esports players. His Twitch channel, HealthyGamer_GG, has been steadily surging in popularity and has quickly amassed 626K followers. His fame skyrocketed following an interview with another streamer, Mizkif, in which they discussed ADHD and how it might affect an esports personality's daily life.

'I'm losing myself'

On the stream, Amouranth discussed that her personal life and mental health were deteriorating by the day, and the fact that she had been banned from Twitch three times in less than a year was yet another reason for her rising anxiety. Dr K also discussed with Amouranth how she prioritizes her internet identity over caring for her true self, Kaitlyn. "You've lost touch with yourself," he pointed out after hearing about Amouranth's concerns. Moreover, she talked about the usual stress experienced by streamers and how many other creators are undoubtedly feeling the same way." The grind is like, taking away part of what made them 'them' before social media," Amouranth said, adding, "It sucks that, like, I'm losing myself."

'A normal wonderful person'

Dr K discussed the complex relationship between the audience and the creative, as well as the difficulties in creating boundaries, saying, "The internet loves it when content creators don't get to be human." He called Amouranth "a normal wonderful person who has had life, social media, and streaming get to them, because that's what it does." Dr K's method of publicly discussing streamers' concerns and fears with them is his way of breaking down the often toxic wall that exists between viewers and online personalities, and it appears to have struck a chord with Amouranth.
