"While we understand that this may be disappointing news, we continue to work on different versions of Premium Lite as we incorporate feedback from our users, creators and partners," read the email.

Those who subscribe to Premium Lite can either go back to watching YouTube the normal way (riddled with ads), or upgrade to YouTube Premium. In YouTube's statement, Lite subscribers were offered a one-month free trial of Premium.

The plan, priced at €6.99 per month, launched in 2021 across countries like Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Norway. While Premium Lite was ad-free, it lacked features of Premium and YouTube Music.
